UNSTABLE MATTER

a solo piece choreographed and performed by Karolina Wyrwal.

The performance features a striking scene where the performer chops paper heads, each symbolising different emotions or individuals, with an unchanging fake smile. The music perfectly complements each scene, elevating the overall experience. The piece ends with Karolina distorted in posture, holding an imaginary hand before bending sideways. It is a powerful performance and commendable dramaturgy that speaks volumes through expressive physicality.

Sometimes I deceive those I really don’t like by being particularly friendly to them. I think I’m putting on a show to entertain or impress others, I’d probably be a good actress. Sometimes people believe that I experience much deeper emotions than I actually do. I can come out of different people and situations with different characters. I have contemplated a career in entertainment. I feel rather strange in company and probably don’t make the best impression. Sometimes I deceive those I really don’t like by being particularly friendly to them. (Joanna Beckwith)
